"Employment - Big Motivation is Not Just Money"

Why do you slog so hard at? Of course, it is for money, we all know.  But money alone cannot make an employee work well in an organization. Everyone search for some motivation factors to make their going smooth at work. Number of studies has already done on ‘the need of being motivated’. Motivation should be both Intrinsic and extrinsic level.  Today, the corporate world brings out various methods to keep the employees ‘motivated’.The very thing corporate world learnt its way of growth is nothing but to have a stabilization of the workforce.  There are some unwritten guidelines the corporate world takes to inspire their human resource. Should employees need to be motivated more than just money does?

Money is not a big motivation for the employees in fact.  But it is the primary thing which put them in work. The real excitement should be the outcome for completing a work. Here, the employers need to outline the key elements of excitement.  The growth of the company means great people paid in a combination of development and job performance.  It is the toughest job to make employees to do their best work, even in trying circumstances. This is the time to think “fun-filled” work environment. There are several ways to motivate your workforce.

1.Recognition/Benefits/Reward:
Employee recognition is one of the effective communication tools to deal with your workforce for the best outcomes. People are often liked to be noticed for their talent, especially in work environment. They need full appreciation for the work done by them. And this is an element of surprise which everyone looks for. Reward and recognition activities can build more confidence among the employees and this can result a win-win situation for employers and employees.

All employees must be recognized under this Employee Recognition programme and it should be done in an explanatory nature as to what behaviours or actions are being rewarded and recognized. Those who perform in the stated level of criteria should be rewarded. It has to be done immediately as the employee shows a rewardable performance. Employee recognition will be mainly to say ‘thank you’ as it makes a feel of being appreciated. This appreciation results in a more positive way.

Employee recognition is not just a nice thing to do for people. Employee recognition is a communication tool that reinforces and rewards the most important outcomes people create for your business. When you recognize people effectively, you reinforce, with your chosen means of recognition, the actions and behaviors you most want to see people repeat. An effective employee recognition system is simple, immediate, and powerfully reinforcing. People also like recognition that is random and that provides an element of surprise. There is always room for employee reward and recognition activities that generally build positive morale in the work environment.

2. Benefits:
Employee benefits are the kind of non-wage compensations excluding the salary package. It will be sometimes in the form of salary arrangement programme such as ‘salary sacrifice’, or ‘salary exchange’. These benefits will cover housing, group insurance, disability income protection, retirement benefits, daycare, tuition settlement, sick leave, vacation, social-security, profit sharing, funding of education, and other specialized benefits.

Benefits are ‘paid value’ to the employees rather than payment. These are benefits for employees for their great services to the company and this works in a two-way mode as ‘company paid and employee paid’ benefits. For instance, medical insurance is paid by the employee where the holiday pay by the company.

3. Career Acceleration:
Organizations should make adequate efforts to accelerate the careers of the key talents. In this era of technology, employees should be given proper training to be updated with the current technologies. Likewise, soft skill trainings and other personal development coaching are to be included in the career acceleration programme. Offer employees opportunities to have some exposures to industry upgrades and invite experts to talk to them.

4. Competitiveness:
Competitiveness is the powerful and central concern of the workforce. They need to work in a quality atmosphere where they are competitive in nature of the work provided. A competitive ambiance would frequently confront the employees to meet the impossible targets. Setting tough and high standard tasks, it is easy to encourage the workforce to provide a competitive outcome. When they are asked to meet such tough targets, people frequently become eager to achieve their goals by exploiting their maximum potential.

5. Leadership:
Every employee should be asked to take a leadership role, which can reach them to an inspirational level of work. It demands them to be more productive and creative. And employees seem to be more dedicated when they are awarded such responsibilities. Leadership is the way to put more work task where the employee will not be in pressure but dedicated. Leadership role is a sign board for the employee to analyze where they stand today and where they would be in future. It will help them to be more team oriented and self-oriented. It involves a task of motivating others to execute some relevant actions for every one’s welfare.  Leadership is just like using carrot and sticks in various combinations.

6. Feeling ‘Part’ of Things:
Employees need to feel that they are part of the organization’s growth and development. Employees should be aware of the developments in their organization that will make them feel they are inevitable part of their organization. It will boost their passion to work. Internal communication is much desirable as they want to be informed on the events conducting by the organization. All are likeminded to be part of the much praised performance. All employees should be appreciated for team projects to encourage them to put their hands together to beat the targets.

7. Sympathetic help on personal issues:
Each and everyone should fulfill their safety needs such as security, stability and consistency as they work for their family. Most of the employees switch on to other jobs mainly because of their personal issues affecting family life. To deal with the troubled employees, the employer should listen sympathetically and sincerely and do what can be done to trim down the work stress on the employee. Employees Assistance Programmes are much designed to function in a work setting to aid employees handle their personal issues that mess up their job performance.

8. Promotion/Growth Opportunities:
This is very natural for every employee to hope for a promotion. They wanted to be improved in skills and in life styles. Everybody has a dream of better tomorrow through career growth. While finishing a particular task, they also need to grow with the company they work. If there is no personal objective to achieve, the work environment will resemble nothing less than a deadly atmosphere. Promotion and growth opportunities are the key advancements to a higher-level authority with increased responsibilities and pay. For assuring promotion and growth opportunities, employers should consider the age and life stages of the employees. The more focused employees often will be the youngest generation as they just started to climb their corporate ladder compared to the older ones nearing the end of their careers.

9. Good Working Conditions:
Working atmosphere should be healthy and neat. These small things will facilitate the employees to bring out the best results in the work they do. It is always better to make comfortable work environment to support the staff.
The open-door policy is remarkably the next one to offer well mannered working conditions. This will ease their communication with the higher authority and they will be able to share their points more directly.

10. Interesting Work:
This is not a new employee motivation element. Everyone look for the interesting work, and in reality very few finds what they really wish for. So, it’s always advisable to identify the interests of the employees before assigning them work. If the work is interesting, employees will definitely touch their targets very fast and will be more accurate on whatever they do. It all depends on how you do the best in assigning work after figuring out what tasks your employee performs well and enjoys doing. This will be an effective way to motivate the right employees with right tasks. Courtesy: Siliconindia
